Do you see the timer on the title bar of the main BT window? It should be disabled when running in Vista systems.

BT won't start

Postby william » Tue Jan 26, 2010 7:29 am

Have never gotten BT to start for me in Vista (32-bit Home Prem). Tried several versions over the last 6mo., only get the "Bracket Trader has stopped working" message. Most recently installed from 070130a80_962.exe, disabled DEP, removed updates KB969947 & KB973565 (per Larry www.bracket-trader.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2477), tried XP & Win2K compatibility modes. Using TWS 901.3 & API 9.62. Please advise.

I'll set up a new Vista 32 system and check if I can duplicate the error.

I got it to work by turning off DEP for all "nonessential" Windows programs. Creating a DEP exception just for BT didn't work (and also didn't work for another legacy program I installed on Vista).

However, BT still works only if installed somewhere outside the Program Files directory (e.g., in the default C:\BracketTrader directory). Not a showstopper, obviously; no doubt a permissions configuration thing that I don't feel like running down right now. If installed in Program Files\..., I get "Run-time error '5'; Invalid procedure call or argument" on startup. Yes, I am running as admin.

This is my DEP setting in Windows 7 64-bit where BT installed OK.
