|

Hi everybody,
I was PM'ed from a chatroom about the format of the posted trades. I'l justl start a thread here on how the chatroom trade poster should post the trades, for going long, going short, getting out, etc.
If the current message format doesnt conform to your ideal posting format, just use the "Confirm before posting" option first and modify your post before hitting the return key.
Post your suggestions here and maybe we can standardize the format.

Here is the format used in hotComm woodiescciclub room. Two seperate trades, one long, one short with exits. Perhaps the standard format for a particular room can be selected from the settings panel so that it conforms to the room. The points per trade can be removed since hotDayTrainer calculates this value. It would be ideal to stay as close to the room posting format as possible since members are used to seeing the same formats.
YM-Long: 10000.00 w/ 2 cont.
YM-Out: 2 10000.00 +0.00
YM-Short: 10000.00 w/ 2 cont.
YM-Out: 2 10000.00 +0.00

Thanks Nick,
I'm already testing the new format. I will release it tomorrow if there are no further suggestions.

Another suggestion. Although I mentioned to remove the points posted, it would be advisable to have BT calculate this and display it as per DayTrainer format.
As a rule, we do not post total points for the day. However, points per trade are allowed. It's an easy way to keep track of a successfull or failed trade in the room for that signal. Otherwise, we all have to keep track of entries for each post to determine the success rate for that signal.
We also do not post the actual size of the trade and therefore most will post a 1 contract size if they do not scale in/out on trades, regardless of their actual size. However, for scaled trades, a 2 contract size is used mostly to demonstrate how to manage partials/runners. For example, going in with 2 contracts, 1 off at target 1, and manage a runner.
DayTrainer can handle the calculation of points for these trades so it would be ideal to have BT consistancy with this format.
YM-Long: 10624.00 w/ 2 cont.
YM-Out: 2 10630.00 +6.00
YM-Long: 10624.00 w/ 2 cont.
YM-Out: 1 10634.00 +10.00
YM-Out: 1 10636.00 +12.00
I'm not sure how this can be implemented easily if trading multiple contracts, or adding on/removing contracts during the trade. We don't want to use the actual number of contracts entered in BT as this would expose the users actual size being traded, which is not what we want in the room.
Need to think on this some more.
Regards,
Nick |

First trade (Sim mode) entered 1 contract, exit on stop hit:
23:21:19 {NickTrader} [ EUR-Short: 1.2498 w/ 1 cont. ]
23:30:48 {NickTrader} [ EUR-Out : 1 1.2502 -0.0004 ]
Second trade (Sim Mode) entered 1 contract, exit on stop hit:
23:31:49 {NickTrader} [ EUR-Long : 1.2502 w/ 1 cont. ] [ EUR-Long : 1.2503 w/ 1 cont. ]
23:38:01 {NickTrader} [ EUR-Out : 1 1.2498 -0.0004 ]
Third trade (Sim mode) entered 1 contract, exit with Close All:
23:39:18 {NickTrader} [ EUR-Short;1.24 1 cont. ]
23:44:38 {NickTrader} [ EUR-Out : 1 1.2498 *0.0001 ]
Is there a reason for the brackets? The brackets, if I recall, seems to be a mIRC room format.
The last trade entry price was 1.2499 and the profit verifies this to be correct but the entry displayed 1.24.
What does the "*" in the profit calculation represent?

Nick |

Still have a problem with 04 release where it will print multiple copies of the post on the same line. Seems that it is linked to the number of trades that were posted. Same problem as in previous message. I also noticed that when this happes there are multiple sound files being played. For example, I will get the message for Target Hit and the General message sound file in which case I will get 2 copies of the post rpinted on the same line.
Auto poster is not usable with this problem. |

OK,
I'll check it out. I dont do many trades so didnt encounter the problem. In the meantime, you can continue posting to notepad and take note of where the error occurs.
Thanks,

| OK, I reproduced the error by using the Feature Tester and moving the price too fast. Is this where you got the error? |

The error occurs with YM and is not just related to the Trade Poster but also to the logs. TWS returns 2 callbacks with every fill for YM (also with DAX). If you check your execdetails log file, you can see this.
I'll see if I can filter out one of the callbacks.

Problem also on ER2. Entry post was OK, but exit prints 2 post on same line. Actual size was 2 contracts to demostrate problem.
[ ER2-Short: 584.1 w/ 2 cont. ]
[ ER2-Out : 2 584.1 -0.0 ] [ ER2-Out : 2 584.1 -0.0 ]
Here is a YM trade. Entry and exit were both messed up. Actual size was 2 contract used to demostrate the problem. For every entry print the "order filled" sound file was played. For every print on the line for exit the "target hit" sound file was played.
[ YM-Long : 57 w cont. [ Ym-lon ; 058 w/ ot. [ Ym-Log ;10586 w/ 2 cont.]
[ ER-Out ; 2 584.7 - [ ER2-out : 2 54.9 -1 [ eR2-Ot :2 584.8 -0.9 ] [ ER2out : 2 589 -1. ] [ ER2-Out : 2 584.9 -1.0 ] [ ER2-Out ; 2 58.9 -10 ] [ ER2-Out : 2 584.8 09] [ ER2-Out ; 2 584.7-0.8 0.8 [ er2-Out : 2 5847 -0.8 ] Er2Out : 2 584.7 -0.8 ] [ ER2-Out :2 584.9 -1.0 ] ER-Out : 2 5849 -1.0 ] [ER2-Out : 2 584.9 -1.0 ] Er2-Out : 2 4.8 -0.9 [ ER2-Out ; 2 84.8 -0.9 ] 4.8 -0.9 ] [ ER2-ot : 2 84.8 -0.9 ] [ eR2Out : 2 584.8-0.9 ] |

Hi Nick,
I already fixed the double-entry bug but I tested it only on YM. I dont trade the ER2. The mess up is probably due to speed/timing of entry.
Using the notepad is a great way to test the function. You can just turn it on to post to notepad and just look later. Use automatic posting , so that each trade posts on a separate line.
Thanks,
Larry
BTW, very nice trading today, specially the last trade! |

Using latest BT version here is a YM trade using auto poster directly to woodies room:
12:04:28 {NickTrader} [ YM-Short: 10635 w/ 2 cont. ]
12:05:17 {NickTrader} [YM-Ou ; 10625 +10 ]
12:05:18 {NickTrader} [ YM-Out : 1 1062 +10
12:10:05 {NickTrader} [ YM-Out : 1 10615 +20 ]
Notice that the line 2 and 3 was duplicated. This was my 1st target of 10 points that BT executed. Still seems to be a problem with duplicate prints. Line 4 was a manual exit and printed correct.
Here is another trade example:
12:26:07 {NickTrader} [ YM-Long : 10613 w/ 2 cont. ]
12:27:08 {NickTrader} [ YM-Out : 2 10617 +4 ]
12:27:09 {NickTrader} [ YM-Out : 2 10617 +4 ]
The manual exit printed twice. |

Still having problems with auto poster on YM and EUR with the latest download. Samples of printing to notepad

[ EUR-Out : 2 1.2188 -0.0005 ]
[ EUR-Out : 2 1.2188 -0.0005 ]
First 2 lines are good. Line 3 is good. But lines 4 - 10 for manual exit are wrong. Again you can see the resuts of 3 groups of posts that are wrong. This was using Sim mode. However, when trading YM live similar results were obtained with this new release (05). |

Nick Trader,
you are one lucky guy that you are having only these problems. Last time I tried to use this feature with the latest version of BT I got multiple posts and multiple records of the same trade wherever it was possible to record it.
Perhaps I am doing something wrong, but then if it is possible to screw things up as badly as in this case, some instructions on how to use this feature would be appreciated and probably even necessary so that we can use it correctly.
Thanks. |

The error occurs with YM in versions previous to 05 because of multiple calbacks from TWS for this symbol. The error should occur not only in the posting but also in the logs.
Anyway, I dont get the error in my system now. Maybe I have a slow system and has to slow the code for fast systems. I'm using an AMD 1.4 ghz system. |

Larry,
my comments concerned version 05. I tried it out 3 times, the last time BT went into some posting loop and I had to exit it by brute force.
I just tested it again today. I got two entry posts to Woodies (fortunately not posted eventually as I was in a conformation mode only) and six (!) exit posts for the same trade. Posting to the notepad is no better (3 exit posts, for instance).
My machine is 2.0 Ghz, so not that fast at all. Just to let you know how it works for me.
It's a nice feature though and very useful, except that still not working well. |

My Box has dual 1 Ghz P3s with 512Mb memory. The problem as I documanted previously happens on YM and EUR with ver 05. Here is a sample of notepad posts in sim mode. The 3rd trade (long) exit post is corrupt printing. The 4rd trade (short) made multiple prints for the entry.
[ EUR-Long : 1.2375 w/ 2 cont. ]
[ EUR-Out : 2 1.2374 -0.0001 ]
[ EUR-Short: 1.2374 w/ 2 cont. ]

I am a new user but I seem to be experiencing a few problems with the Chat Room Trade Poster feaure. I am in Sim mode, ESignal Connection: eSignal Playback, and I am directing the trades to NotePad. I have a 3-step strategy and I an trading 5 contracts. The initial entry shows up in NotePad as for 2 contracts instead of 5 contracts. Whenever a stop is hit, the number of contracts is always 2 when it should be, for example, 3 or 5. If I use the Close All button to exit the current trade, NotePad always reports 2 contracts. Below is a portion of the contents of NotePad with my comments added to the right of the enteries:
[Test-Out: 1000 +10] 1
[Test-Out: 1000 +10] 1
[ ER2-Long : 583.3 w/ 2 cont. ] Note: should be 5
[ ER2-Out : 2 583.9 +0.6 ]
[ ER2-Out : 2 583.4 +0.1 ] note: stop hit, should be 3 not 2
[ ER2-Long : 584.7 w/ 2 cont. ] Note: should be 5 not 2
[ ER2-Out : 2 584.5 -0.2 ] Note: stop hit, should be 5 not 2
[ ER2-Long : 585.2 w/ 2 cont. ] Note: should be 5 not 2
[ ER2-Out : 2 585.7 +0.5 ]
[ ER2-Out : 2 585.4 +0.2 ] Note: should be 3 not 2.
[ ER2-Long : 585.8 w/ 2 cont. ]
[ ER2-Out : 2 56.4+06 ]
[ ER2-Out : 2 586.6 +0.8]

Okay, I see it is a question of accuracy versus policy and policy was chosen. That’s fine.

| I have somebody who requested the number of contracts in the contracts picker be increased to 100. These people might not want to reveal how many contracts they are trading when they decide to post. |

The auto poster now works much better, no multiple posts. However... (there's always a but lol).
I've noticed that sometimes the text is printed with missing characters. The problem has been noticed on exits, not entries. It seems to occur when the sound file is activated at the same time. I've also noticed that it tries to play 2 sound files at these times (the general alert sound and the target hit sound) . THe first sound file will start, then after it starts(sometimes I will hear just the start of the 1st word) a second sound file is activated. Sometimes I only hear just 1 sound file. It seems that the text is bad when both are played. Not sure if this is the reason for the missing text but it's the only observation I have. |

Thanks, Nick, for the observation.
That's not an error with the poster but with the exit order handling. I'll have to track where the double alert occurs. |
